Hangouts is Google's official application designed for seamless, instant communication between users. Replacing the legacy "Google Talk," it enhances classic messaging with new features. These additions allow for richer self-expression through visuals like photos and a vast library of emojis.

As expected from an instant messaging app, Hangouts displays online status, typing indicators, and read receipts. You can even receive messages offline. Similar to Google Talk, video conferencing is readily available—simply switch from text chat to a video call with up to ten participants.

A standout feature of Hangouts is its cross-device compatibility. Conversations seamlessly continue across computers, iPads, and Android smartphones. Hangouts also conveniently saves conversation histories, including shared photos organized into personalized folders.

A key difference, though potentially unpopular with some, is the absence of an "invisible mode." Online status is always visible.
