Mahjong School: Learn Japanese Riichi Mahjong

Mahjong School is your destination for learning how to play Mahjong. We specialize in teaching Japanese-style Mahjong, which is nearly identical to the European (Riichi) and American styles. While it differs somewhat from Chinese, Hong Kong, or Taiwanese Mahjong, mastering the Japanese style makes it easy to adapt to other variations.

Mahjong School offers three core methods to help you learn Japanese Mahjong.

1 The Mahjong Calculator.

Click to add tiles to your hand or declare TING, CHOW, PON, or CHI to form a winning hand. You can configure various conditions like DORA and self-draw. Once set, the calculator will compute the hand's Fu and points for you, complete with detailed explanations including Yaku names.

2 The Simple Tutorial.

This tutorial lists all Han values for you, each accompanied by an example hand and a clear description.

3 A Practice Mode.

Play Mahjong directly against AI opponents. The AI is designed for beginners, providing a friendly environment for learners. Practice is the most effective way to master Mahjong.
