Cyberpunk 2077 Will Take Up 25% of Switch 2 Internal Storage, It's a 64GB Install

by Isaac Apr 17,2025

CD Projekt Red has officially announced that the install size for Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition on the Nintendo Switch 2 will be 64GB. While this is notably smaller than the 100-110GB required on Xbox or PS5, it's still a significant 25% of the Switch 2's total 256GB internal storage.

Set to launch alongside the Switch 2 on June 5, Cyberpunk 2077 will be available both as a physical 64GB game card and as a digital download through the Nintendo eShop. It's worth noting that while some new Switch 2 game cards will only contain a download key, Cyberpunk 2077 will come with the full game on the card.

This announcement raises an important question: how quickly will the Switch 2's internal storage fill up?

PlayThe Switch 2's 256GB internal storage marks a significant upgrade from the original Switch's 32GB. However, with games like *Cyberpunk 2077* requiring 64GB and other anticipated titles such as the $80 *Mario Kart World* likely needing even more space, it's clear that storage will be a concern.

For context, one of the largest games on the original Switch, Tears of the Kingdom, only required 16GB. The trend suggests that Switch 2 games will be much larger.

The solution to this storage dilemma is expandable storage. Like its predecessors and competitors, the Switch 2 supports additional storage, but with a twist: it requires microSD Express cards rather than the standard microSD, microSDHC, and microSDXC cards used by the original Switch. This means you'll need to invest in new, more expensive memory cards.

Nintendo is collaborating with SanDisk and Samsung to offer its own branded cards, which are likely to be pricier than similar third-party options. As the Switch 2 drives demand, more manufacturers might enter the microSD Express market, potentially affecting prices.
