Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii: A Blend of Manly Drama and Hilarious Mayhem

RGG Studio promises a unique blend of serious storytelling and over-the-top comedy in their upcoming title, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. This latest installment features a "more serious" Goro Majima, according to director Masayoshi Yokoyama, particularly at the story's outset.

However, producer Ryosuke Horii clarifies that the game's core is a compelling "manly drama," focusing on Majima's determined pursuit of his goals and the bonds he forges along the way. While acknowledging the game's comedic elements, Horii emphasizes the narrative's central theme: "The goofing off isn’t the main point – there’s a manly drama at the center of things. Of course, there are some crazy parts, but overall, it’s a straightforward tale about a passionate man."

Horii highlights Majima's unique qualities, distinct from series protagonist Kazuma Kiryu, justifying his selection as the lead. The team aimed for a balance between realism and outlandish elements, avoiding predictability while maintaining narrative integrity: "I wanted to strike a good balance between the pirate-ness, Majima-ness, and ‘Ryu ga Gotoku’-ness, so I think that was a difficult part."

The result promises a thrilling adventure, blending realistic drama with extravagant action.

Majima's Maji Festival: A Celebratory Tour

To celebrate the game's launch, RGG Studio is hosting Majima's Maji Festival across six Japanese cities. The tour, which began December 1st, 2024 in Sapporo, concludes with events in Nagoya (January 18th) and Tokyo (January 25th).

Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii launches on February 21st for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. This modern-day pirate adventure features exciting combat, naval battles, a vibrant cast, and a captivating story.
