The excitement for the newly released GTA 6 trailer is palpable, and if you missed it, we've delved deep into all the secrets and details it holds. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait until May 26, 2026, to dive into Lucia and Jason's narrative. While we bide our time, let's take a stroll down memory lane and rank some of the iconic Rockstar games we've cherished over the years, just for fun!
Since its inception in 1998, Rockstar has crafted over 30 games, giving us legendary franchises like Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and Manhunt. The big question is, which of these gems stands above the rest? Note that this list excludes titles like LA Noire and Max Payne 2, focusing solely on games developed by Rockstar, not just published. I've ranked them using an IGN Tier List, basing my choices on personal enjoyment. Here's how I see it:
Topping my S-tier list is undoubtedly Red Dead Redemption 2, which I consider my all-time favorite game. Joining it in the S-tier are its predecessor and the genre-defining GTA 5. Both have set the standard for cinematic open-world experiences. I also hold a special affection for Max Payne 3 with its thrilling bullet-time mechanics, and GTA San Andreas, a game I played far too young. At the other end of the spectrum, in the D-tier, you'll find titles like Austin Powers: Oh, Behave! and Welcome to My Underground Lair!, which are, frankly, not worth revisiting.
Do you disagree with my rankings? Perhaps you believe Vice City outshines GTA 4? Feel free to create your own tier list and see how your S, A, B, C, and D tiers stack up against the IGN community's opinions.
With only two trailers released so far, speculation is rife about where GTA 6 will land on future rankings. Share your thoughts in the comments below on where you think GTA 6 will rank and why you've placed the other Rockstar games in your chosen order.
