Hideo Kojima Reveals First Look at Death Stranding Animated Film Mosquito

by Connor Apr 29,2026

During today's Beyond the Strand presentation, Hideo Kojima and Kojima Productions officially unveiled a new animated film set in the Death Stranding universe. Titled *Death Stranding: Mosquito*, the film, as described by Kojima and animation director Hiroshi Miyamoto, follows the story of a man with a peculiar ability to “suck.”

The presentation featured a brief animation clip from *Mosquito*. It showed a man with a bizarre, tentacled object attached to his face. The clip opens with him swimming underwater towards a vague, humanoid shape. In the next segment, he is on land, battling a figure in a porter suit amidst Timefall rain, all while the strange organic device remains fixed to his face.

That brief glimpse raises many questions. Who is this character, and what is the meaning behind these events? Details remain scarce. However, a later discussion with Kojima and Miyamoto clarified that the title “Mosquito” refers to the protagonist's unique sucking ability—though it’s emphatically not blood he's after. The exact nature of what he absorbs will be revealed in the film.

The production team also shared insights into the film's animation process. *Mosquito* utilizes hand-drawn lines that are then digitally assembled to create the final animation. Studio Easter, known for its work on *Dandadan*, is crafting the film's backgrounds. Additionally, Aaron Guzikowski, the screenwriter behind *Prisoners* and *Raised by Wolves*, is penning the scenario script.

This animated project is not the only *Death Stranding* film in development. The presentation also provided new details about the upcoming live-action *Death Stranding* movie from A24. Furthermore, Kojima showcased a new clip from the highly anticipated game *OD*. For a complete overview of all announcements from today's event, you can find more information here.
