Marvel Snap, developed by California-based Second Dinner and published by ByteDance's Nuverse, faced an unexpected ban in certain regions, alongside other ByteDance apps like CapCut and Lemon8. The game was removed from iOS and Android app stores on January 18, 2025, leaving many players frustrated.
While PC users can still access the game via Steam, the sudden removal without warning caused significant upset, particularly for those who continued making in-app purchases unaware of the impending ban. Second Dinner expressed surprise and assured players they are actively working to reinstate the game. An official statement on Platform X confirmed their commitment: "Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."
Interestingly, the ban didn't affect all ByteDance games. Titles like Ragnarok X: 3rd Anniversary and Earth: Revival - Deep Underground remain accessible.
Prior to the ban, discussion centered around the newly added Moonstone card. This Ongoing archetype card (4/6) offers a unique advantage: it copies the Ongoing effects of 1, 2, and 3-cost cards in its lane. Given the existing number of low-cost Ongoing cards, like Ant-Man and U.S. Agent, Moonstone's ability to quickly accumulate power without directly using its own effects presents a significant strategic shift within the game's meta.
