Persona 4 Golden: How To Beat Magical Magus

Conquering Yukiko's Castle: Strategies for the Magical Magus in Persona 4 Golden

Yukiko's Castle, the first major dungeon in Persona 4 Golden, presents a gradual challenge, culminating in encounters with the formidable Magical Magus. While the early floors are relatively easy, the later floors introduce this powerful random enemy. This guide outlines its weaknesses and provides strategies for a swift victory.

Magical Magus Weaknesses and Skills

The Magical Magus's elemental affinities are as follows:

Null Strong Weak
Fire Wind Light

The Magical Magus primarily utilizes fire-based attacks, making fire resistance crucial. Acquire fire-resistant accessories from golden chests within the dungeon—these are valuable not only for this encounter but also for the final boss.

Be wary of the Magical Magus's tell. When it begins charging magic, guard on your next turn. It frequently uses Agilao, a powerful fire spell capable of one-shotting unprepared party members. While Hysterical Slap inflicts decent physical damage (hitting twice), Agilao is the primary threat. Consider having Chie and Yosuke focus on guarding to mitigate damage, leaving the offensive role primarily to the protagonist.

Early-Game Persona with Light Skills

Archangel, a level 11 Persona, is your best bet early in the game for dealing with the Magical Magus's Light weakness. It naturally possesses Hama, an instant-kill attack that exploits weaknesses. Archangel also learns Media at level 12, a valuable healing spell for the final boss fight.

Archangel can be fused using:

  • Slime (Level 2)
  • Forneus (Level 6)

Hama's high success rate against the Magical Magus's weakness makes this encounter significantly easier. Farming the Magical Magus for experience is viable, provided you have sufficient SP recovery items or are prepared to enter the final boss fight with depleted SP. Remember, in Persona 4 Golden, Light and Dark skills are primarily instant-kill moves.
