Pokémon TCG Pocket Players Blown Away After Discovering Some Cards Reference Iconic Game Boy Locations

by Joshua Mar 04,2025

Pokémon TCG Pocket's captivating card art has captivated players for months, but a recent discovery reveals cleverly hidden details linking some Pokémon to their Game Boy origins.

The investigation began when Reddit user asch_win highlighted Spearow's card, showcasing familiar landmarks: grass, a fence, trees, and two buildings—one resembling Celadon City's Department Store from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. This building's proximity to a fenced-in grassy area reminiscent of Kanto's Route 16, a known Spearow habitat, strongly suggests an intentional reference.

This wasn't an isolated instance. Reddit user jteede uncovered further connections, including a Diglett card situated near Vermillion City and a Haunter card near Lavender Town's iconic tower. Asch_win also identified location references on several Supporter cards.

Many card illustrations depict Pokémon in fantastical settings unrelated to established lore. Some, like a Pikachu variant, mirror real-world collectible cards. However, the hidden Easter eggs discovered are exclusive to Pokémon TCG Pocket.

The community's subsequent investigation unearthed more references: a Gyarados card subtly featuring the S.S. Anne, and a storyline involving Oddish, Venonat, and Bellsprout cards set near the seaside Snorlax location from FireRed and LeafGreen.

The game currently boasts four booster expansion sets, with the latest being Mythical Island. More are anticipated, alongside additional cards through Wonder Pick Events and updates. As Creatures Inc. and DeNA continue to expand the card roster, players are encouraged to search for further hidden references.

Currently, a Wonder Pick event featuring Charmander and Squirtle is underway. For more information, explore the details of the current Wonder Pick event and the ongoing debate about the impact of pack choice.
