Star Wars Movie From Deadpool & Wolverine Director Could Star Ryan Gosling

by Brooklyn Mar 05,2025

Shawn Levy, director of Deadpool and Wolverine, is reportedly close to joining the Star Wars universe, bringing Ryan Gosling along.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, negotiations are underway for Gosling to star in Levy's upcoming Star Wars film. Levy has been developing this project since 2022, with a script completed last year. He's collaborating once again with Jonathan Tropper, screenwriter of This Is Where I Leave You and The Adam Project.

Plot details remain tightly under wraps. The only confirmed information is that the film is a standalone project, unrelated to the Skywalker Saga, and likely not part of a larger trilogy. Gosling's role and the film's time period within the Star Wars timeline are yet to be revealed.

The Hollywood Reporter also suggests that Gosling's potential involvement has expedited the project. Levy was previously attached to direct a boy band movie starring Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman. However, if Gosling signs on, the Star Wars film will reportedly take priority, commencing production this fall.

This news comes as Star Wars undergoes a period of transition. Following the cancellation of The Acolyte, Skeleton Crew recently concluded its run on Disney+. On the film front, Dave Filoni's Mandalorian and Grogu movie completed filming in December, targeting a May 22, 2026 release. A new trilogy centered around Daisy Ridley's Rey is also in the works.

A release date for Levy's Star Wars film remains unannounced, pending the project's progression. For a comprehensive overview of upcoming Star Wars content, refer to our 2025 preview.
