Work on Steam FPS Game Paused Because Dev is Going to Prison for 3 Years

The Steam FPS title, Fortune's Run, faces an indefinite delay due to its creator's three-year prison sentence. Currently in early access, the game's development is completely halted. This isn't a typical Steam game delay stemming from financial or technical issues; instead, the sole developer's incarceration presents a unique obstacle.

Prior to this news, Fortune's Run enjoyed positive reception on Steam, praised for its retro art style and innovative gameplay. However, future updates are now significantly delayed. While many games have overcome protracted development challenges, Fortune's Run's future remains uncertain.

Developer Dizzie revealed the prison sentence in a January 14th Steam update. Dizzie explained the crime predated Fortune's Run's development and occurred during a period of their life characterized by violent behavior. While the specific crime remains undisclosed, this situation is unusual in game development. The original team member departed after a medical procedure and subsequent loss of interest in game development, leaving Dizzie as the sole developer.

Development will be completely paused until Dizzie's release in February 2025. The game's Steam page still targets a 2026 release from early access, a goal now highly improbable. However, lengthy early access periods are not uncommon for indie games, with some titles taking five years or more. Dizzie assures fans the game will be completed upon release from prison. The current early access build remains playable, and other Steam shooters can bridge the gap until development resumes.
