Voice Actor Confirms He Won't Return for Persona 4 Remake

by Ava Jul 08,2025

The long-speculated remake of *Persona 4* appears to be gaining more credibility, following a recent statement from a familiar voice in the franchise. Yuri Lowenthal, who originally voiced Yosuke Hanamura in *Persona 4* and other entries in the series, revealed on BlueSky that he won’t be reprising his role for what is presumed to be the upcoming remake.

“And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the *Persona 4* remake,” Lowenthal stated. “I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.”

While Atlus has yet to officially confirm the existence of such a project, the rumor mill has been active for some time. We’ve reached out to Sega/Atlus for clarification, but no formal announcement has been made to date.

It's worth noting that video game voice actors under SAG-AFTRA remain on strike over concerns surrounding AI protections and fair treatment. Although Lowenthal is a SAG-AFTRA member, it’s unclear whether this labor issue influenced casting decisions. Regardless, the union continues to push for stronger safeguards, reiterating in a statement earlier this year that negotiations with studios are still unresolved.

Despite the lack of confirmation, rumors about a *Persona 4* remake have persisted for months. A domain registration discovered earlier in the year reignited speculation, and various leaks have hinted at such a project in the past. However, having a former cast member inadvertently disclose details—whether intentionally or not—is an unusual way for such news to surface.

With *Persona 3 Reload* already making waves after its announcement in summer 2023, a *Persona 4* remake would fit naturally into the series’ revitalization strategy. And if history repeats itself, we may hear more during this year’s busy summer gaming event season.

In related Persona news, fans of *Persona 5* can look forward to the official release of the mobile and PC spin-off *Persona 5: The Phantom X* on June 26, 2025—offering another way to dive deeper into the world of the Phantom Thieves.
