RuneScape: Dragonwilds made a thrilling surprise announcement during its early access livestream on April 16. The game's developer, Jagex, revealed that Dragonwilds is now available for early access on Steam, a mere few weeks following its first trailer release.

The gaming community was taken aback, as Dragonwilds had only been opened for wishlisting on Steam on April 1, with the first official gameplay teaser emerging on April 2. While the game was initially announced in 2022, it wasn't until late 2024 that Jagex began alpha testing signups for a "new survival game set in the RuneScape universe." The game was officially unveiled as RuneScape: Dragonwilds on March 31, 2025.

Estimated Official Release Date in Early 2026

Jagex estimates that Dragonwilds will see its full release in early 2026. The developers emphasized their commitment to delivering a polished, engaging experience, stating, "We want to spend the time to get everything right to ensure our players enjoy a complete, satisfying experience that they'll want to revisit with friends time and again."

Jesse America, Jagex's Executive Producer, highlighted that Dragonwilds represents a fresh take on the RuneScape franchise, designed specifically for its dedicated fanbase. He noted that the early access phase marks the beginning of a significant development journey, saying, "Throughout Early Access, we’ll be updating the game regularly with new content and features, while closely listening to the community to create an iconic open-world survival crafting game that resonates with both our most ardent RuneScape fans and new players."

Early Access Roadmap Revealed

Jagex has unveiled an exciting roadmap for the early access period, outlining what players can look forward to. A highlight of upcoming updates is the introduction of Fellhollow, a new region suspended between life and death. This region is governed by the soul-eater dragon Imaru and is influenced by the wild anima of Ashenfall and the cursed energy of the Underworld. Players will be joined by the iconic RuneScape character Death in this new region, which will feature fresh quests, lore, gear, and music, along with new skills in magic, ranged, and farming.

The game will also introduce new Lesser Dragons as enemies, along with dragon slayer gear, a hardcore mode, and a creative mode, among other enhancements. While specific release dates for these updates remain undisclosed, Jagex assures players of continuous game improvements throughout the early access period.

Players who purchase Dragonwilds during its early access phase will be rewarded with exclusive in-game items. According to the game's Steam page, "Early Adopters" will receive:
