WoW: Rare Riding Turtle Mount Now Acquirable

by Simon Jan 22,2025

World of Warcraft's vast landscape is home to countless dedicated players, making it challenging to stand out. However, acquiring rare in-game items like the Riding Turtle mount can solidify your legendary status. This unique mount is obtained through redeeming rare loot cards, a process significantly aided by a substantial supply of WoW gold.

This guide details how to obtain the Riding Turtle and maximize your chances.

Understanding the Riding Turtle

A recent WoW pre-update allowed solo players to form groups, creating opportunities to obtain exotic creatures like the Riding Turtle and Sea Turtle. The methods described below are currently viable, but their longevity isn't guaranteed. Blizzard might adjust the system, so act quickly.

The Angler's Approach

Hidden within your garrison's waters lies a treasure. Alliance players fish for Lunarfall Carp, while Horde players seek Frostdeep Minnow at their fishing shack. Returning these fish to the lake summons the Lunarfall Cavedweller or Frostdeep Cavedweller, respectively, which can drop the coveted mounts.

This requires the Draenor Angler achievement (catching 100 of each Enormous Fish species in Warlords of Draenor). This unlocks a level 3 garrison fishing shack, crucial for obtaining the carps and minnows (anecdotal evidence suggests it's nearly impossible without it). Even with the shack, the fish have a 3% drop rate, improvable with better gear and boosts.

Why Now? The Power of the Group

Previously, only the player who tagged the Cave Dweller received rewards, making it a tedious solo endeavor. The latest patch allows raid groups of up to 40 players to share the loot. This makes fishing more collaborative and lucrative, drastically increasing the chances of obtaining the rare mounts. The combined drop rate hurdles (3% for fish, 0.5% for the mount from the Cavedweller) are significantly easier to overcome with 40 players.

While the Draenor Angler achievement isn't required to join a raid, groups might prefer players who can contribute by catching their own fish. Finding a welcoming group or forming your own is highly recommended given the potential rewards.
