Celebrating Devarattam: A Digital Legacy

This application, a product of my "Digital Revolution of Devarattam" project, honors the rich tradition of Devarattam. I dedicate this app to Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kumararaman (retired teacher), Kalaimamani Mr. M. Kannan Kumar, and Kalaimamani Mr. K. Nellai Manikandan from Zamin Kodangipatti – recipients of the KALAIMAMANI, KALAIMANI, and Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar awards, respectively. My gratitude also extends to my Guru, Mr. E. Rajakamulu, and the cherished legends of Devarattam.

The primary aim of this app is to promote Devarattam and its distinguished awardees. Within the app, you'll find detailed information about Devarattam and its prominent figures. Devarattam, a vibrant folk dance of Tamil Nadu, boasts a history spanning generations. Historically and presently, the Rajakambalathu Nayakkar community has been instrumental in its performance.

While Devarattam encompasses 32 to 72 distinct steps, 32 form the foundational core, with others serving as variations. Devarattam dancers gracefully move, each hand holding a kerchief, their legs adorned with salangai (anklets), accompanied by the rhythmic sounds of the Deva Thunthumi, a traditional musical instrument.
