The GeForce RTX 4090, though a generation behind the Blackwell 50 series, remains a powerhouse, outperforming the RTX 5080, RTX 4080 Super, Radeon RX 9070 XT, and RX 7900 XTX. Only the RTX 5090 surpasses it, but finding one at a reasonable price is a near-impossible feat.
Discontinued status makes the RTX 4090 increasingly scarce. Fortunately, Dell offers two pre-built PCs featuring this GPU at competitive prices: the Alienware Aurora R16, starting at $2,999.99, and the Dell Tower Plus, starting at $2,849.99. These represent some of the best current deals for an RTX 4090 pre-built, as many other manufacturers, including Lenovo and HP, no longer offer such configurations.
$2,999.99 at Alienware
This Alienware Aurora R16 boasts an Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. The CPU is upgradeable to an Intel Core Ultra 9 285K, though this is largely unnecessary for gaming; the 20-core, 5.3GHz Intel Core Ultra 7 265F, cooled by a 240mm AIO liquid cooler, provides ample performance. The system is powered by a 1000W 80PLUS Platinum power supply.
$2,849.99 at Dell
The Dell Tower Plus mirrors the Aurora R16's core specs: Intel Core Ultra 7 265F CPU, GeForce RTX 4090 GPU, 16GB DDR5-5200MHz RAM, and a 1TB NVMe SSD. A $100 upgrade to the Intel Core Ultra 7 285K is recommended, improving the processor and upgrading cooling from a standard air cooler to an advanced 125W TDP heatsink. Power is supplied by a 1000W 80PLUS Platinum unit.
The RTX 4090 reigns supreme among RTX 40 series GPUs. Only the $2000 RTX 5090 offers superior performance. Expect smooth 4K gaming at 60+fps, even with maxed settings and ray tracing enabled (assuming DLSS support). Path tracing remains demanding for all GPUs, but is rarely used outside benchmarks. While the RTX 5090 is faster, the 4090's performance is exceptional for most gamers.
Nvidia GeForce RTX 4090 GPU Review by Chris Coke: "The RTX 4090 may be huge and expensive, but it delivers unparalleled frame rates. Even the $1,599 price seems reasonable given its performance and DLSS 3 capabilities."
$2,399.99 at Alienware
Dell also offers an Alienware Aurora R16 with the RTX 5080 for $2,499.99. While a solid card, the performance gains over the RTX 4080 are modest, unless DLSS 4 is utilized.
