28 Years Later Trailer Debuts With Fiennes, Murphy Cameo

by Charlotte Apr 16,2026

The first trailer for "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple" has arrived, showing Ralph Fiennes as Dr. Kelson fighting for survival in the post-apocalyptic sequel to this year's "28 Years Later."

Directed by Nia DaCosta and written by Alex Garland, "The Bone Temple" features Cillian Murphy as an executive producer. Variety reports that the "Oppenheimer" star will briefly return as Jim from "28 Days Later" in this film, with a more substantial role in the third installment.

While we won't reveal spoilers for "28 Years Later" here, the trailer features several returning characters continuing from the... surprising conclusion. Dr. Kelson seems to have found someone (or something?) that could alter everything.

Here’s the official synopsis for "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple":

Building on the world Danny Boyle and Alex Garland established in "28 Years Later" – while turning it completely upside down – Nia DaCosta directs "28 Years Later: The Bone Temple." In this next chapter of the epic story, Dr. Kelson (Ralph Fiennes) enters a startling new relationship with consequences that could reshape their world, while Spike's (Alfie Williams) meeting with Jimmy Crystal (Jack O'Connell) turns into an inescapable nightmare. In the world of The Bone Temple, the infected are no longer the primary danger – the inhumanity of the survivors proves far stranger and more terrifying.

"28 Years Later" performed well at the box office, earning $150.4 million globally. It also received positive reviews. IGN's review scored it 9/10, stating: "28 Years Later remains as powerful and relevant a dissection of cultural conflict as the original, with Danny Boyle and Alex Garland masterfully playing the heartstrings amid the bloodshed."

"28 Years Later: The Bone Temple" arrives in theaters on January 16, 2026.
