Memorial Day Alienware 18 Area-51 Deals

The Alienware 18 Area-51 is designed as a formidable mobile desktop replacement rather than a daily carry laptop. Weighing close to 10 pounds and with a thickness of 0.95 inches at its slimmest, this laptop is powered by a hefty 360W power brick, best used while plugged in. Its larger size accommodates an expansive 18-inch display, a full-sized keyboard with a separate numpad, and a robust cooling system that keeps noise levels low while providing space for an RJ45 ethernet port.

Currently, two models are on sale for Memorial Day. The model priced at $3,150 comes equipped with an RTX 5080 and 32GB of memory, while the $3,750 model upgrades to an RTX 5090 and 64GB of memory.

Memorial Day Alienware 16 Area-51 Deals

Although less imposing than its 18-inch counterpart, the Alienware 16 Area-51 remains a powerhouse of a gaming laptop, focusing on maximum performance and efficient cooling. It weighs 7.5 pounds and is 0.85 inches thick at its thinnest point. Like the Alienware 18, it also requires a 360W power brick and is recommended to be used plugged in. The smaller size means it houses a 16-inch display and a standard laptop keyboard without a numpad or an ethernet jack. However, it maintains the capability to be equipped with high-end specs like the Intel Core Ultra 9 HX processor and up to an Nvidia RTX 5090 GPU, thanks to its effective cooling system.

Four models are on sale for Memorial Day. The $2,850 model features an RTX 5070 Ti. Both the $2,999.99 and $3,150 models come with an RTX 5080, while the top-tier $3,650 model is fitted with an RTX 5090.

This CPU / GPU Combo Excels in Any Game

The Area-51 laptop is powered by the formidable Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX, which features a maximum turbo frequency of 5.4GHz, 24 cores, and a 40MB L2 cache. This processor is among the fastest mobile CPUs available, competing directly with the AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX3D, according to Passmark.

The RTX 5070 Ti mobile GPU, as reported by Notebookcheck, is the successor to the RTX 4070, matching the performance of the RTX 4080. The RTX 5070, on the other hand, performs similarly to the RTX 4070 and is well-suited for gaming at the native 1920x1200 resolution.

Tom's Hardware indicates that the RTX 5080 mobile GPU outperforms the RTX 4080 by 15%-20% and even surpasses the RTX 4090 by about 5%. It offers a compelling value, being approximately 15% less powerful than the RTX 5090 but nearly $1,000 cheaper. With the Alienware Area-51's QHD+ (2560x1600) display, the RTX 5080 should handle new and upcoming games at high frame rates, especially when supported by DLSS 4.

The Area-51: New Style, More Power, Better Cooling

For 2025, the Alienware Area-51 introduces a magnesium alloy chassis with advanced cooling systems designed to manage the heat from the latest high-performance components. Enhancements include additional fans, larger cutouts for increased airflow, more extensive use of copper, and a new thermal interface material to efficiently dissipate heat. Dell claims this setup can handle a power ceiling of up to 240W TDP without increasing noise levels.

The design of the Area-51 features smooth contours with rounded edges and soft corners, a departure from the typical squared-off laptop design. The hinges are mostly internal, nearly invisible, and the laptop offers ample customization options for RGB LED lighting. Connectivity options include three USB Type-A 3.2 15Gbps ports (one with PowerShare), two Thunderbolt / USB Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 port, and a card reader. The 16-inch model weighs 7.5 pounds, and the 18-inch model weighs 9.6 pounds.
