Amazon's God of War TV Series Already Set for Season 2 Before Season 1 Has a Release Date

Amazon’s upcoming God of War TV series, even before its premiere, has already secured a two-season order, according to showrunner Ronald D. Moore. Moore stepped into the role after the departure of previous showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus. In a conversation with fellow Battlestar Galactica alum Katee Sackhoff, Moore revealed his current focus: "Right now, I'm working on an adaptation of a video game called God of War, a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of and they've asked me to come in. So I'm literally in the writer's room, and working on that. That's my new thing."

He admitted a lack of extensive gaming experience, confessing, "I'm not a gamer," though he enjoys classic arcade games like Defender, Asteroids, and Centipede. His attempts at modern gaming proved less successful: "'Press R1.' Which one's R1? Oh, I'm dead," he quipped.

For the God of War series, Moore serves as writer, executive producer, and showrunner, bringing his extensive experience from shows like Star Trek: The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and the 2000s Battlestar Galactica. While some members of the original team departed, Sony's Cory Barlog remains as an executive producer. The series will be based on the acclaimed 2018 God of War game.

Amazon's track record of quickly renewing successful video game adaptations, such as the Fallout TV show and Secret Level, suggests a positive outlook for God of War's streaming potential.
