Boosting your power in Path of Exile 2, like many action RPGs, involves various methods, some straightforward, others more nuanced. Here's how to master the art of anointing.
Unlocking Anointing: The Distilled Emotions Quest
Anointing amulets and Waystones isn't immediately available. You'll need Distilled Emotions, obtained primarily from Delirium Maps. These function similarly to Blight Oils from the first game. Ten types exist: Despair, Disgust, Envy, Fear, Greed, Guilt, Ire, Isolation, Paranoia, and Suffering. While Delirium Maps are the standard source, trading and the in-game market offer alternative acquisition methods. For those seeking more control, the Reforging Bench allows upgrading three of the same Distilled Emotion into a single, enhanced version.
Alternatively, though less efficient, Simulacrum waves offer a chance to drop Distilled Emotions. However, this method demands a stronger build due to the increased difficulty.
Anointing Your Gear
Currently, anointing applies to amulets and Waystones, with potential for future expansion. To anoint an amulet, open the Instilling window after selecting a Distilled Emotion (the choice here doesn't affect the outcome). Place the amulet in the central slot and three Distilled Emotions in the bottom slots. Consult the Passive Skill Tree; hovering over a Notable Passive Skill (and pressing Alt on PC or R3 on console) reveals the required emotions for anointing that specific skill.
Anointing isn't permanent; you can re-anoint an amulet to adapt to evolving builds. The new skill will overwrite the previous one. Waystones follow a similar process, offering increased challenge in exchange for better loot. Note: Corrupted items cannot be anointed.
With this knowledge, you're ready to enhance your amulets and challenge yourself with anointed Waystones in Path of Exile 2.
