Apple to Pre-Install New Gaming App on All New Smart Devices This Year

by Carter May 29,2025

Apple is reportedly developing a new game-centric app aimed at enhancing the gaming experience on its devices. According to a recent report from Bloomberg, these efforts align with earlier rumors suggesting Apple aims to position itself as a dominant force in the gaming industry. Details about the app are expected to surface during Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on June 9.

The app is anticipated to be pre-installed on all new Apple smart devices, including Apple TV, later this year. Functioning similarly to Steam on PCs, it will serve as a gaming hub, consolidating features such as achievements, leaderboards, chats, and more, while replacing the current "Game Center." Additionally, Bloomberg suggests a Mac version will be available, allowing users to access games installed outside the App Store.

Although Apple has not commented officially on these reports, the acquisition of RAC7 Games, the developer behind "Sneaky Sasquatch," adds intrigue.

Despite Apple's strong presence in mobile gaming due to its vast user base and revenue generated from premium games and in-app purchases, high-end gaming enthusiasts still prefer Windows over Macs. It's speculated that the new app will launch alongside the next iOS update, expected in September.

Additionally, Apple is currently engaged in a legal dispute with Epic Games, the creator of Fortnite, concerning the game's availability on iPhones and Apple's broader approach to gaming revenue. Last week, IGN noted Fortnite's resurgence on iPhone and iPad, reaching the top of the App Store charts in the U.S. after being removed globally in 2020 for bypassing Apple's commission.
