Avowed has been compared to both Skyrim and Obsidian's own The Outer Worlds, but one key difference sets it apart: it's a strictly single-player experience. Despite initial plans, Avowed does not feature multiplayer, whether co-op or PvP. While you'll have companions to aid you, they're all non-player characters (NPCs), mirroring the structure of The Outer Worlds. Enemy encounters are also entirely AI-controlled; there's no player invasion mechanic or any other form of multiplayer interaction.
