Batman 2 script finished as Reeves reveals update

Director Matt Reeves and Co-Writer Mattson Tomlin Complete Script for The Batman Part 2

The long-awaited update on Robert Pattinson’s sequel has arrived—Reeves shared a cryptic photo on X/Twitter featuring himself and Tomlin seated with what appears to be a Batman-branded script visible on the table.

While Reeves hasn't explicitly confirmed completion, Variety reports the script is finalized. This follows DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn telling EW last week he expected to receive the script imminently.

"We're very optimistic," Gunn stated. "Matt’s passionate about this project—we communicate regularly and share that enthusiasm. While we haven’t reviewed the script yet, anticipation is high."

2022’s The Batman reinvented Gotham with unprecedented realism, earning acclaim from critics (including our perfect score) and audiences while grossing $772 million globally. The film’s success intensified fan anticipation for its sequel—especially after spin-off series The Penguin expanded the universe with Colin Farrell's crime lord.

Gunn has championed Reeves' creative process, urging patience:

"Critics should respect Matt's workflow," he emphasized to EW. "Artistic integrity drives success—you loved his vision precisely because he refuses to rush. Trust his methods."

After multiple delays, The Batman Part II is slated for October 1, 2027. Meanwhile, DCU's The Brave and the Bold will introduce a separate Bruce Wayne, leading Gunn to call Batman his "most complex DC challenge."
