Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Test Details Leaked in App Error

by Gabriel Mar 17,2026

Details about a developer-exclusive Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 playtest were accidentally shared publicly through the Call of Duty app, revealing unannounced multiplayer modes including a 20v20 wingsuit battle. Oops.

Unexpected Early Reveal

"An internal developer playtest for Black Ops 7 was scheduled this weekend," reported CharlieIntel on X/Twitter. "Activision or developers Treyarch/Raven Software mistakenly broadcast the invitation to all Xbox users via the Call of Duty app."

The leak also exposed two previously unknown multiplayer modes: Skirmish and Overload.

Play

A screenshot of Skirmish's description revealed: "20-player teams battle across sprawling maps to secure objectives. Capture strategic points, demolish payloads, and transmit critical intel to score. Wingsuits provide aerial mobility for rapid flanking maneuvers. Victory goes to the first team reaching the score limit."

Overload was described as: "Six-player squads compete to seize a neutral EMP device and deliver it to enemy headquarters for points. Teams must successfully transport multiple EMPs to achieve victory."

An internal, developer only Black Ops 7 play test was set to begin this weekend. They accidentally pushed the message of the day to everyone on Xbox on the Call of Duty app, instead.

Black Ops 7's Ambitious Approach

Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7—unveiled at Xbox Games Showcase 2025—will be the first back-to-back installment in the sub-franchise's history. Matt Cox, Call of Duty's General Manager, stated: "Our goal from day one was crafting a cohesive, consecutive Black Ops experience that honors the series' distinct identity."

The game will feature Milo Ventimiglia as David Mason, Kiernan Shipka as newcomer Emma Kagen, and Michael Rooker returning as Mike Harper from Black Ops 2.

Price Increase and Past Controversies

Following Microsoft's confirmation of a $79.99 price point for upcoming AAA Xbox titles, Black Ops 7 is expected to adopt this higher pricing tier. This comes after backlash over in-game ads appearing in Black Ops 6 and Warzone, which Activision later removed, calling them an "erroneously deployed test."

And yes, for those keeping track, Beavis and Butt-Head are still playable in Black Ops 6.
