Call of Duty player successfully sued Activision to lift unfair in-game ban

by Jacob Feb 25,2025

A dedicated gamer, b00lin, waged a 763-day legal battle against Activision to overturn an unjust Steam ban. Their arduous journey, meticulously documented in a blog post, highlights the lengths some will go to clear their name.

The ban stemmed from b00lin playing over 36 hours of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 beta in December 2023. While initially believing it a technical glitch, Activision's refusal to overturn the ban spurred b00lin into action. Unlike most who would have conceded, they chose to fight.

Activision, citing security concerns, withheld evidence of alleged cheating, even resisting b00lin's request for seemingly innocuous details such as the name of the flagged software.

The subsequent court case exposed Activision's lack of concrete proof against b00lin. The company's extreme secrecy regarding its anti-cheat measures was laid bare. The court ultimately sided with b00lin, ordering Activision to cover legal fees and lift the ban, a victory finally achieved in early 2025.
