Boss fights in *The First Berserker: Khazan* can throw you for a loop if you're not ready for all the twists and turns they bring. Here's your comprehensive guide to conquering the Blade Phantom, ensuring you're well-equipped to handle its challenging phases.
The ghostly voices that have haunted Khazan finally take form on the Trials of the Frozen Mountain level on Stormpass as the Blade Phantom. True to its name, this formidable foe will test your ability to manage stamina and aggression amidst relentless attacks. This marks your first multi-phase boss encounter in *The First Berserker: Khazan*.
The battle kicks off in a castle with floors flooded with a crimson liquid. Here's what you need to know about the Blade Phantom's arsenal during Phase 1:
In addition to these melee attacks, the Blade Phantom can summon a giant hammer, causing damage and red spikes to emerge in front of it. If it opts for a spear, be prepared for a quick throw followed by a teleporting smash. When wielding a blade, expect a swift six-hit combo. It can also vanish and dash around the battlefield before striking.
Mastering the timing of these attacks and using parries or dodges to create openings for your attacks is crucial. Aim to reduce the Blade Phantom's stamina enough to execute a Brutal Attack. Continue this strategy until you reduce its health by about half, triggering the transition to Phase 2.
In Phase 2, the Blade Phantom initiates with four claw attacks, followed by a high-arching spear throw. Evade the area where the spear lands, then brace for a leaping swipe. This is followed by three greatsword slashes and a hammer smash.
While it retains most of its previous moves, the Blade Phantom introduces new attacks, including a spear thrust and follow-up, as well as four to six swift dual-wielding attacks. It teleports more often, and when using the greatsword, be wary of the multiple slashes and the final Burst Attack, signaled by a red P-like symbol on the screen. To counter this, use the Counterattack (L1/LB + Circle/B) to parry, restoring your stamina and leaving the boss vulnerable to further attacks.
Strategically deplete the Blade Phantom's stamina and time your Brutal Attack for when the window is nearly closed to maximize damage. This approach will lead you to victory, earning you 8,640 Lacrima, Soul Eater gear items, a Shieldsman’s Ring, and Netherworld Mineral for crafting.
