Elden Ring Nightreign hits 2M sales on debut

Elden Ring Nightreign sold 2 million copies on launch day.

"Strong pre-orders and day-one sales have propelled the game past the remarkable 2 million units sold," announced publisher Bandai Namco.

The cooperative multiplayer spin-off released globally overnight and quickly climbed Steam's most-played charts, peaking at 313,593 concurrent players.

This impressive figure doesn't account for PlayStation or Xbox player counts, as Microsoft and Sony don't disclose platform-specific numbers. However, FromSoftware's sales announcement confirms Nightreign's massive debut.

While the original Elden Ring became a phenomenon with 30 million copies sold since its 2022 release, Nightreign likely won't match that success. For comparison, the Shadow of the Erdtree expansion moved 5 million units in its first three days earlier this year. It remains to be seen whether Nightreign can achieve similar sales.

Despite its commercial success, Nightreign has received mixed reception on Steam. Players criticize the absence of two-player co-op and voice chat functionality. Many also report the solo experience being exceptionally difficult, with challenges finding sufficient players to form three-person squads. A balancing patch addressing solo play difficulty is scheduled for next week.

As noted in IGN's Elden Ring Nightreign review: "Let's address the crucial disclaimer upfront: Nightreign isn't designed for solo players unless you're an elite Elden Ring veteran actively seeking greater challenges. While single-player mode exists, its current balancing issues suggest imminent adjustments. This comes from someone deeply immersed in these games."
