Pocket Gamer recently discovered Dynabytes' Fantasma, a compelling augmented reality (AR) multiplayer GPS adventure game at Gamescom Latam. This isn't your average mobile game; it's a unique experience that blends real-world exploration with paranormal battles.
A recent update expanded Fantasma's reach by adding Japanese, Korean, Malay, and Portuguese language support – perfectly timed for the Brazilian Gamescom Latam event. Further updates are planned to include German, Italian, and Spanish in the coming months.
So, what exactly is Fantasma? Players hunt and battle mischievous Fantasma creatures that plague the world. The key is deploying portable electromagnetic fields (think bait, but far less fishy!) to lure them in.

Once a Fantasma is lured, the battle begins in augmented reality. Players use their phones to track and target these entities, shooting virtual projectiles to deplete their health. Successful battles allow you to capture the Fantasma in special bottles.
The location-based gameplay is a highlight. Fantasma encounters are tied to your real-world location, encouraging exploration. However, deployable sensors extend your detection range, bringing the action closer. And for a more social experience, team up with other players!
Fantasma is free-to-play (with in-app purchases) and available now on the App Store and Google Play. Download it today! Looking for more AR adventures? Check out our list of the best AR games for iOS.
