The classic strategy game, ROME: Total War, has received a massive free update for Android devices! Feral Interactive's "Imperium Update" delivers a host of gameplay refinements, enhanced controls, and significant quality-of-life improvements. Originally released on Android in 2018, this update breathes new life into the game, bringing features and enhancements to the core experience.
The same update will roll out next week for the standalone expansions, *Barbarian Invasion* and *Alexander*, ensuring a consistent and improved experience across all aspects of the game.
This update borrows some of the best features from Feral's more recent mobile titles, such as *Total War: MEDIEVAL II* and *EMPIRE*. Three new control options have been added: Positioning Mode, Melee Mode, and Automatic Deselection. These modes provide more precise control over units, streamlining battles and making them more intuitive.
Army, agent, and fleet movement is now simplified with a tap-and-hold mechanic, eliminating the need for manual path dragging. Positioning Mode allows for fine-tuned unit placement via tap-and-hold, while the new Group Grid feature simplifies unit group management with a collapsible selection menu. Melee Mode enables ranged units to seamlessly transition to close combat when strategically advantageous.
A significant addition is Command Slowdown, which automatically reduces game speed during complex order issuance. And for the first time, keyboard and mouse support is now available for Android (and iPad) users.
The minimap has undergone a redesign, mirroring the smoother zooming and navigation found in *MEDIEVAL II*. A convenient reset button allows for quick reversion to the default view.
The update is available now on the Google Play Store. If you own ROME: Total War on Android, download and enjoy the enhancements! Updates for *Barbarian Invasion* and *Alexander* will follow next week.
