by Ethan Jan 02,2026

George R.R. Martin, author of "A Song of Ice and Fire," has reacted enthusiastically to news of the upcoming Elden Ring film adaptation, expressing optimism about the project.

The acclaimed writer, who contributed to FromSoftware's acclaimed game lore, praised director Alex Garland (known for "Ex Machina" and "Annihilation") and production house A24 for their involvement.

On his personal blog, Martin hailed Garland as "an exceptional filmmaker" and called A24 "remarkable." The novelist shared his hopeful outlook alongside a YouTube video analyzing why the Elden Ring adaptation could succeed.

While Martin shows clear enthusiasm, reports indicate he isn't directly involved in production. The writer currently balances multiple projects, including a recently announced animated "Hercules" retelling.

News of Martin's participation in "A Dozen Tough Jobs" - a 20th century reimagining of Greek myths - reignited frustration among fans awaiting "The Winds of Winter."

The author recently addressed criticism, acknowledging some readers' disappointment while defending his creative process and diverse interests beyond the "Ice and Fire" series.

"I genuinely hope fans can share my excitement about this project," Martin stated regarding his Hercules adaptation.

Martin's highly anticipated "The Winds of Winter" remains unfinished thirteen years after "A Dance with Dragons" was published, with no confirmed release date.

Details about the Elden Ring movie remain scarce, though sources suggest Garland hopes to cast Kit Connor ("Heartstopper") in a major role. Production dates haven't been announced.
