Gears of War: E-Day Absent from Xbox Showcase 2025, Set for Release Next Year

by George Jun 15,2025

If you tuned into the Xbox Games Showcase 2025 hoping for a glimpse of *Gears of War: E-Day*, you may have felt a bit let down. This year’s presentation kept a low profile when it came to Microsoft's flagship franchises, with no appearances from *Forza*, *Halo*, or even a preview of the upcoming *Fable* reboot.

However, Xbox CEO Phil Spencer took the stage to reassure fans that 2026 will be a major year for the brand, as it aligns with the 25th anniversary of Xbox. That year will finally bring *Gears of War: E-Day*, along with the next entry in the acclaimed *Forza* series.

*Gears of War: E-Day* was officially announced during last year’s Xbox Games Showcase in 2024. As a prequel set 14 years before the events of the original game, it serves as an origin story for beloved characters Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago. Both characters will be reprised by their original voice actors—John DiMiaggio as Marcus and Carlos Ferro as Dom—bringing back the authentic tone fans know and love.

“*Gears of War: E-Day* is not just our next major title; it's a return to what makes *Gears of War* games special and authentic,” said Mike Crump, studio head at The Coalition, during a previous reveal.

In early 2025, it was also revealed that People Can Fly—the studio behind *Bulletstorm* and *Gears of War: Judgment*—would serve as a co-developer on *E-Day*, working alongside The Coalition and Xbox Game Studios to deliver a true return to form for the franchise.

The 2025 Xbox Games Showcase wasn’t entirely quiet on the *Halo* front, either. Phil Spencer teased a potential revival of the iconic franchise, possibly including a remaster of the original *Halo: Combat Evolved*.
