HBO has unveiled the casting for the iconic roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley in their upcoming television adaptation of the beloved Harry Potter series. Newcomers Dominic McLaughlin will portray Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will take on the role of Hermione Granger, and Alastair Stout is set to play Ron Weasley.

Showrunner and executive producer Francesca Gardiner, along with director Mark Mylod, who will helm multiple episodes, shared their excitement in a joint statement: "After an extensive search led by our esteemed casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann, we are thrilled to introduce our Harry, Hermione, and Ron. The remarkable talent of these three young actors is truly captivating, and we are eager for the global audience to see their enchanting performances. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the tens of thousands of children who auditioned; it has been a joy to uncover the vast array of young talent."

In April, Warner Bros. and HBO confirmed the initial lineup of actors who will bring fresh interpretations to the classic Hogwarts professors in the series. The first announced cast members included John Lithgow (known for Conclave and Dexter), who previously revealed he would be stepping into the role of Albus Dumbledore. Joining him are other actors whose casting had been widely speculated or rumored.

Among the familiar faces announced are Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), who will portray Rubeus Hagrid, and Paapa Essiedu (I May Destroy You, Black Mirror), set to play Severus Snape. Completing the ensemble are Janet McTeer (Me Before You, The Menu) as Minerva McGonagall, Luke Thallon (The Favourite, Present Laughter) as Quirinus Quirrell, and Paul Whitehouse (The Fast Show, Alice Through the Looking Glass) as Argus Filch.

The roles of Hogwarts professors Dumbledore, Hagrid, and Snape are not only iconic within the Harry Potter universe but have also become significant figures in popular culture. Each actor faces the challenge of living up to the legacy of these characters, a sentiment echoed by John Lithgow when he confirmed his role as Dumbledore earlier this year.

“I received the call at the Sundance Film Festival while working on another film, and it wasn’t an easy decision to make because it will define the final chapter of my career,” he shared with ScreenRant in February. “However, I’m thrilled to be part of this project with such an incredible team revisiting the world of Harry Potter. I'll be about 87 at the wrap party, but I've said yes.”
