Hollow Knight: Silksong Dev Clarifies Release Timing

by Finn Dec 07,2025

The developer of Hollow Knight: Silksong has clarified the game's brief appearance during Microsoft's Xbox Games Showcase 2025, where it was shown alongside the new ROG Ally X handheld.

During the presentation, Xbox president Sarah Bond stated Silksong would be "available at launch and in Game Pass when Ally releases later this year" – leading many to speculate the game might launch specifically with the new hardware's Holiday 2025 window.

However, developer Team Cherry has since clarified this isn't the case.

In messages seen by IGN on the game's official Discord, Team Cherry marketing manager Matthew 'Leth' Griffin confirmed Silksong isn't waiting for the ROG Ally X launch, and that the game will actually arrive before the holiday season.

"I confirmed BEFORE Holiday," Griffin wrote, adding "we are not tied to a console release." When asked for clarification about which holiday he meant, Griffin specifically stated: "Christmas yes."

Potential September Release?

With the confirmation of a pre-Christmas launch, speculation now turns to timing. Notably, the game will be playable in September at Australia's national museum of screen culture in Melbourne starting September 18. Could this indicate an imminent release?

Fans had hoped for a concrete release date during the Xbox showcase, especially after recent updates to the game's Steam page suggested an imminent launch. Instead, Xbox reserved its surprise announcement for Final Fantasy 16, leaving Silksong enthusiasts waiting once more. Still, with Christmas just six months away, the wait may finally be nearing its end.

For those considering playing Silksong on the new hardware, IGN has already published hands-on impressions of the ROG Ally X.
