Recent developments have sparked excitement among fans of the highly anticipated game, Hollow Knight: Silksong. Microsoft's casual reference to the game in an Xbox post, coupled with backend changes to its Steam listing, suggest that a re-reveal and potential release might be on the horizon.
On March 24, the Steam metadata for Hollow Knight: Silksong was updated, as noted on SteamDB. These updates included an opt-in for GeForce Now, Nvidia's streaming platform, modifications to game assets, and a crucial change to the Steam store page's legal lines, now indicating a copyright for Team Cherry in 2025, rather than 2019. These changes hint at imminent activity related to Silksong, potentially pointing to a 2025 release.
With Nintendo's Switch 2 Direct scheduled for April 2, fans are buzzing with anticipation. They hope for news about Silksong during the event, especially given the game's confirmed launch platforms at its announcement—Windows, Mac, Linux, and Nintendo Switch—and its status as one of the most-wanted games for Microsoft's Game Pass.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced six years ago, and since then, fans have endured long periods of silence punctuated by occasional updates. January saw a flurry of activity when cryptic social media posts from a Team Cherry developer fueled speculation about a potential re-reveal and a possible launch exclusive on the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
In June 2022, Silksong was featured in Microsoft's Xbox-Bethesda Showcase, with an announcement that all showcased titles would be playable within the next 12 months. However, in May 2023, Team Cherry announced a delay beyond the first half of 2023, stating that development was ongoing and the game was expanding in scope. Matthew Griffin, Team Cherry's marketing and publishing lead, emphasized their commitment to delivering a high-quality game, given its significant size and expectations.
As the sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 game, Hollow Knight, Silksong carries immense anticipation and remains one of the most wishlisted games on Steam. IGN's review of the original Hollow Knight praised its compelling and rich world, Hallownest, for its depth of story, branching paths, and challenging enemies, making it a game worth exploring thoroughly.
