Marvel Snap has returned and developers wish to switch publishers

On January 19th, TikTok's temporary US shutdown unexpectedly impacted Marvel Snap, the popular card game published by Nuverse (a ByteDance subsidiary). This resulted in a 24-hour outage.

While Marvel Snap is now back online, full functionality remains in progress, with in-app purchases currently unavailable. In response to this disruption, developers are exploring a publisher change and internalizing some services, as announced on X (formerly Twitter), citing political risks as the primary driver.

TikTok's precarious position, with only a 90-day extension to sell a 50% stake to a US entity, leaves Marvel Snap vulnerable to future blockades should the deal fail. Second Dinner Studios promises further updates.

While many players reported authorization problems, Steam users retained access. The sudden outage, and the lack of prior warning, particularly frustrated players who continued making in-game purchases unaware of the potential lockout. Second Dinner expressed surprise and assured players via X that, "Marvel Snap is here to stay. We're working hard to restore the game as quickly as possible, and we'll keep players informed of our progress."
