MindsEye Dev Urges Patience for Official Launch, Promises Major Day-One Update for Physical Copies

by Jacob Jun 16,2025

The highly anticipated MindsEye, developed by Build A Rocket Boy, is set to officially launch on June 10, 2025. However, the game has already stirred some controversy after a few players got their hands on physical copies a week early and began sharing their initial impressions online.

One X / Twitter user, @MrHazel88, posted an image of a retail copy of MindsEye alongside a thread expressing disappointment with the game’s current state, describing it as a “technical mess.” While he stated his intention to give the game a fair chance later on, his early criticisms sparked a wave of discussion across social media platforms.

Developer Issues Official Statement

In response, Build A Rocket Boy took to social media to urge fans to wait until the official release date before playing the game. The studio emphasized that a major day-one patch will be available at launch, which includes critical improvements to ensure the game runs smoothly and delivers the full experience as intended.

“This update brings key improvements to ensure MindsEye plays as we intended and to meet all the characters at their best,” the developer explained. Additionally, the team stressed the importance of preserving the narrative integrity of the game, which is “built around twists and emotional moments.”

“We want everyone to experience the story the same way at the same time on day one, without bias.”

This appeal aims to prevent spoilers from leaking prematurely and ensures all players can enjoy the storyline in its purest form.

A Series of Setbacks

The early leak and negative feedback are only the latest hurdles for Build A Rocket Boy during the development of MindsEye. Just days prior to the scheduled launch, two senior executives—Chief Legal Officer and Chief Financial Officer—reportedly left the company, raising concerns among the fanbase about the game’s stability and future support.

Adding fuel to the fire, Build A Rocket Boy co-CEO Mark Gerhard recently claimed there is a “concerted effort” to “trash the game and the studio,” even suggesting that some negative comments might be generated by paid individuals or spam bots. These remarks were made directly in the official MindsEye Discord server, prompting surprise and debate among community members.

Game Details & Content Roadmap

MindsEye launches on June 10, 2025, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Priced at $59.99, the game blends elements from titles like *Grand Theft Auto*, *Watch Dogs*, and *Cyberpunk*, while also featuring a robust user-generated content system likened to “AAA Minecraft.”

At launch, MindsEye will include a tightly crafted linear story campaign, single-player free roam, and a variety of missions such as the horde mode “Destruction Site Shootout,” and combat missions including “Honor Amongst Thieves” and “Friendly Fire.” There will also be six races, six checkpoint races, and three drone races. Premium pass holders gain access to additional content, including an extra horde mission and an exotic cosmetics pack.

Post-Launch Plans

Build A Rocket Boy has committed to supporting MindsEye with ongoing content updates. The 2025 roadmap includes summer updates featuring new missions, followed by fall additions introducing new single-player modes and multiplayer features. Winter updates will focus on enhancing free roam experiences and delivering more missions.

Premium pass owners will receive exclusive missions and cosmetic packs throughout the year. The developer promises a “constant stream” of premium content, aiming to make MindsEye a “living, ever-expanding player experience.”

“The continuous stream of studio-developed content, combined with the very best of the community’s own beautiful creations, means that MindsEye will continue to surprise and delight its players for decades to come.”
