Mojang Hints at Copper Update Amid Mob Speculation

by Jacob Oct 13,2025

Minecraft's official social media channels have sparked speculation with cryptic copper-themed posts hinting at an upcoming major addition.

The Minecraft Twitter account posted "C U in the mines!" alongside mysterious imagery, while Instagram showed cave interiors spelling "CU 29" with coordinates reading "Teleported Steve to 29, 11, 63.54."

These clues clearly reference copper: "Cu" is its chemical symbol, 29 its atomic number, 11 its periodic table group, and 63.54 its atomic weight. While confirming copper's involvement, the exact nature remains tantalizingly unclear—though fans already have compelling theories.

Copper has been part of Minecraft for years, serving as a versatile material for crafting blocks, ingots, and building components with multiple oxidation states that create distinct visual effects.

During Minecraft Live 2021, Mojang proposed a copper golem concept—a potential new mob that could randomly press copper buttons. Despite losing that year's community vote, the idea remained popular among players.

The copper golem's unique mechanics would have included progressive oxidation, eventually petrifying the creature unless players intervened with an axe or lightning strike—a feature that continued appearing as Easter eggs in later Mob Votes.

"Remember Mojang's teased copper-related content?" one Redditor speculated, while another declared: "This has to mean the copper update—possibly including the long-awaited copper golem!"

Stronger evidence emerged from Minecraft's official YouTube channel, where game director Agnes Larsson visited a real mine. Sharp-eyed fans noticed gameplay footage featuring a copper-block structure resembling the unused golem design.

Could this finally be the copper golem's chance? While underground mining references suggest copper-related gameplay changes too, Mojang continues keeping players guessing about their next move.

The speculation follows last month's Vibrant Visuals graphical overhaul, currently available only on supported platforms.
