Tracking the Black Flame in Monster Hunter Wilds

Around the midpoint of Monster Hunter Wilds' main story, Chapter 3 introduces the Black Flame, which briefly appears before disappearing into the Oilwell Basin. Your mission: find and defeat it.

Begin by leaving Base Camp and heading towards Zone 9 of the Oilwell Basin, as shown in the map below.

Along the way, you'll discover tar tracks. Examining them triggers the Hunter's tracking instincts, automatically alerting scoutflies. This instantly reveals the Black Flame's location. Follow the green trail illuminated by the scoutflies in Zone 9, leading to a large flaming crater, to finally confront the Black Flame.

The Black Flame (also known as Nu Udra) is a tentacled beast wielding fire-based attacks. Strategically targeting and severing its tentacles first significantly simplifies the battle, granting easier access to its core weak points for increased material rewards upon victory.

To mitigate the Oilwell Basin's intense heat, which constantly drains health, carrying several Cool Drinks is highly recommended.
