Discover the latest trends in player engagement as Monster Hunter Wilds (MH Wilds) experiences a significant drop in its player count, edging closer to the figures seen with Monster Hunter World (MH World). Dive into the details of MH Wilds' player decline and get a sneak peek at the game's first exciting collaboration.
Monster Hunter Wilds, which emerged as one of the year's most eagerly anticipated releases and quickly became Capcom's fastest-selling title, is now facing a notable downturn in player engagement. Three months post-launch, the game's concurrent player numbers have significantly decreased.
As highlighted by the popular Monster Hunter YouTuber Zenny, the concurrent player count for MH Wilds has halved since May, bringing it closer to the older yet still beloved MH World. Data from SteamDB shows that MH Wilds has a 24-hour peak of 41,101 players, while MH World stands at 26,479 at the time of writing.
Comparatively, during its third month on Steam, MH World boasted over 100,000 concurrent players, a stark contrast to MH Wilds' current figures around 40,000. Many point to the lack of robust endgame content in MH Wilds as a primary reason for this decline, despite the release of Title Update 1. However, with the upcoming second Title Update slated for this summer, there's hope that new monsters, events, and other content will reinvigorate the player base.
In an effort to bring back players, MH Wilds is teasing a collaboration with another iconic Capcom franchise, Street Fighter. On May 19, Monster Hunter's official Twitter (X) account posted an image featuring a paw mark styled in the urban aesthetic of Street Fighter 6, hinting at an exciting crossover.
While details remain unconfirmed, fans are buzzing with anticipation, especially given the successful precedent set by the MH World x Street Fighter collaboration. That event brought Ryu and Sakura armor sets, along with paid DLC like Hadoken and Shoryuken gestures, and the Handler's Chun-Li Costume, among other offerings.
This would be MH Wilds' inaugural collaboration, and the community is eager to see how Capcom will execute this crossover. The Monster Hunter series has a rich history of collaborations, having partnered with titles like Devil May Cry and Sonic for MH4, Animal Crossing and Fire Emblem for MH Gen U, and Assassin’s Creed and Megaman for MH World, among many others.
With a promising lineup of updates and collaborations on the horizon, many anticipate a resurgence in MH Wilds' player base. Monster Hunter Wilds is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Stay tuned to our site for the latest news and updates on Monster Hunter Wilds!
