NetEase, once known for prioritizing profit over fun, has recently experienced a significant shift in public perception, thanks to successful releases like Marvel Rivals and Once Human. The company has now teased its latest project, Sea of Remnants, which promises a unique blend of musical elements and pirate theming. Although details are scarce, the teaser hints at a game set on the high seas with a playful, toylike aesthetic reminiscent of Errol Flynn's swashbuckling adventures.
While the exact gameplay mechanics—whether turn-based, open-world, or something else—remain a mystery, the trailer showcases a vibrant and colorful world filled with intriguing locations for players to explore using their action figure-like characters.
Given NetEase's recent ambitious projects and the game's title, Sea of Remnants could be their take on an open-world pirate RPG, similar to Sea of Thieves. Rare has dominated this niche, and despite competitors like Skull & Bones, they remain unchallenged. However, if anyone can reinvent a well-trodden genre with flair and innovation, it's NetEase. They've previously disrupted the market with Marvel Rivals, which successfully rivaled Overwatch.
In the crowded RPG market, NetEase faces stiff competition. For a glimpse into the vast array of top-tier RPGs available, check out our list of the top 25 best RPGs on Android and iOS.
