New Nier Guide for Beast Hide Locations

NieR: Automata boasts a diverse arsenal of weapons, allowing players to experiment with various types across multiple playthroughs. Each weapon offers multiple upgrade levels, extending their usefulness and enabling players to utilize their favorites throughout the entire game.

Weapon upgrades are readily available at the Resistance Camp, but require specific resources. One particularly challenging material to acquire is Beast Hides; here's a guide to efficient farming.

Obtaining Beast Hides in NieR: Automata

Beast Hides are dropped by wildlife such as moose and boar. These creatures randomly appear in designated map areas, generally avoiding both the player and nearby robots. Their white icons on the mini-map distinguish them from the black icons of machines. However, unlike machines, wildlife doesn't respawn frequently, requiring strategic searching.

Moose and boar are exclusive to the ruined city and forest zones. Their behavior (fleeing or attacking) depends on the player's level relative to theirs. Higher-level animals may become aggressive even at a distance. Wildlife also possesses substantial health, making early-game encounters challenging, especially against similarly or higher-leveled creatures.

Animal Bait can lure wildlife closer, simplifying the hunting process.

Since wildlife doesn't continuously respawn during the main storyline, players must hunt them during exploration and then search for new ones. Respawn mechanics are similar to those for machines:

  • Fast traveling resets all enemies and wildlife.
  • Traveling a sufficient distance triggers respawns in previously visited areas.
  • Story progression can also trigger respawns of nearby enemies and wildlife.

There's no foolproof farming method for Beast Hides. Consistent hunting of wildlife encountered while traversing the forest and city ruins usually yields sufficient quantities. The drop rate is relatively high, meaning players rarely need excessive amounts, especially if they avoid upgrading more weapons than they can equip simultaneously.
