Nintendo to Focus on Switch 1 in Upcoming Direct

by Allison Mar 27,2025

Nintendo has just announced an exciting Nintendo Direct event, exclusively focused on the beloved Nintendo Switch. Mark your calendars for tomorrow, March 27, at 7 a.m. PT, where you can tune in for approximately 30 minutes of thrilling reveals about upcoming games for the Nintendo Switch. It's important to note that Nintendo has explicitly stated there will be no updates regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 during this presentation. For those eagerly awaiting news on the Switch 2, Nintendo has scheduled a separate Direct for April 2 at 6 a.m. PT.

You can catch the livestreamed event on Nintendo's official channels. Here's the link to watch it live: https://t.co/sJFoxe0mq0.

So, what can fans expect from this Nintendo Direct? Despite the buzz around the upcoming Switch 2, Nintendo still has a robust lineup of games in development for the original Switch, which has impressively sold over 150.86 million units. This massive audience is something that video game publishers, developers, and Nintendo itself cannot overlook, even as they prepare for the next generation.

Among the anticipated titles, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Professor Layton and the New World of Steam are slated for release on the Switch in 2025. Additionally, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is set to launch on the Switch sometime this year. Fans have also been eagerly awaiting Hollow Knight: Silksong, which was announced six years ago with confirmed platforms including Windows, Mac, Linux, and the Nintendo Switch. Given the Switch 2's backward compatibility, these games are expected to be playable on both the original Switch and its successor.

This week's Nintendo Direct could serve as a grand finale for the Switch, eight years after its launch, showcasing Nintendo's final slate of exclusives before transitioning to the Switch 2. However, Nintendo might still have some surprises in store for its dedicated fanbase.
