Nintendo Will Sell Loads of Switch 2 Consoles at Launch ‘Regardless of Price,’ Analysts Predict, June Release Date Once Again Mentioned

The price of the Nintendo Switch 2 is a hot topic in the gaming world. Analysts at IGN predict a $400 launch price, a figure supported by a recent Bloomberg report based on Japanese analyst forecasts.

A $400 price tag would be significantly higher than the original Switch, and some analysts even suggest a potential $499 price point. However, despite the price, the expectation is for a massive launch, possibly the biggest console launch ever. Tokyo analyst Serkan Toto told Bloomberg, "They will sell boatloads of Switch 2 in the first months in particular, almost regardless of the price."

This anticipated popularity stems from a strong launch lineup. Toto predicts a new Mario Kart (as hinted by Nintendo), a new 3D Mario title, Pokémon Legends: Z-A, Metroid Prime 4, and Call of Duty from Activision, all within the first year. Numerous other rumored third-party titles are also expected. In an interview with IGN, Firaxis (developers of Civilization 7) called the Switch 2's Joy-Con mouse mode "definitely intriguing." Nacon, a French publisher, confirmed they have Switch 2 games ready for release. Hollow Knight: Silksong is also rumored for the console, and EA expressed interest in bringing Madden, FIFA, and The Sims to the platform.

It's important to note that Activision hasn't officially confirmed their Switch 2 plans, and Nintendo hasn't commented on the price reports.

A June 2025 release date is gaining traction in both online and gaming media circles. Analyst Robin Zhu of Sanford C. Bernstein told Bloomberg a June launch is expected, with initial inventory of 6-8 million units. Selling through this stock quickly would easily surpass the sales speeds of previous consoles.

Concerns have been raised about the impact of tariffs on the Switch 2's price. However, Bloomberg points out that the console will be assembled in both Vietnam and China, potentially mitigating tariff risks.

While much remains unknown, Nintendo plans a Direct presentation for April 2nd to reveal further details.

The January reveal showcased backwards compatibility and a second USB-C port. Many details remain undisclosed, including the function of a new Joy-Con button, although the Joy-Con mouse theory has gained traction.

A recent Nintendo patent suggests the Joy-Cons can be attached upside down, utilizing gyro mechanics similar to smartphones. This magnetic attachment, unlike the original Switch's rails, could impact gameplay mechanics.
