Nintendo Switch 2 Image Reveals C Button on Joy-Con

by Andrew Mar 28,2025

Nintendo has officially confirmed that the mysterious new button on the Nintendo Switch 2's Joy-Con is indeed the C button, aligning with earlier rumors. This revelation came through the recently launched Nintendo Today! app, where close inspection of the app's promotional images on the App Store and Google Play clearly shows the letter "C" on the button.

The C button was first showcased with the Nintendo Switch 2 earlier this year, but initial images did not feature any lettering on the button. Speculation about its purpose has been rampant. Some enthusiasts believe it could be related to "casting" the Switch 2 to a TV wirelessly or facilitating screen sharing. Others suggest it might toggle the Joy-Con into a mouse mode or enhance group and voice chat functionalities.

While we await further details, Nintendo has scheduled a Switch 2 Direct for April 2, which promises to shed more light on the console and its features. Here's what we know so far about the Nintendo Switch 2:

  • Set for release in 2025, likely not before June based on hands-on event schedules.
  • The console is larger than the original Switch, featuring bigger Joy-Con controllers that may double as a mouse.
  • It includes two USB-C ports, one at the top and one at the bottom, unlike the original Switch which had only one.
  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is backward compatible, capable of playing both physical and digital Nintendo Switch games, as well as exclusive titles for the Switch 2. However, some games may not be fully supported.
  • A new Mario Kart game is in development for the Nintendo Switch 2.
