Nintendo Tweaks Classic Character Post-Donkey Kong Redesign

Nintendo has recently unveiled a refreshed appearance for Diddy Kong, following earlier modifications to Donkey Kong's iconic look. Earlier this year, fans noticed significant updates to Donkey Kong's design in official artwork and early footage from Mario Kart World.

Now, Diddy Kong has also received a visual update, showcased through artwork on Nintendo's website and at the Licensing Expo 2025 in Las Vegas. As reported by Nintendo Life, the new Diddy Kong features a more cartoonish style with rounded eyes and a playful, friendly smile.

Attendees at the Licensing Expo 2025, where brands showcase their franchises for merchandising and partnership deals, can view the updated designs of both Diddy and Donkey Kong. Photos shared by attendee Cptn_Alex on social media highlight these changes.

Nintendo has not officially commented on the redesigns for Diddy Kong and Donkey Kong, though many believe these changes align with the characters' appearances in the successful The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Similarly, Princess Peach received a slight redesign, evident on the box art of her Switch game, Princess Peach: Showtime!, to match her movie counterpart, as noted by Eurogamer.

Donkey Kong is set to star in the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 title, Donkey Kong Bananza. Although Diddy Kong's involvement has not been confirmed, the inclusion of other Kong family members like Cranky Kong, combined with Diddy's updated look, suggests a high likelihood of his participation.

Additionally, the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, tentatively titled Super Mario World, is expected to feature more of Nintendo's beloved primates, including the newly redesigned Diddy Kong.
