Pokémon TCG Pocket Players Love and Hate Heartbreaking Time Space Showdown Art

by Max Feb 24,2025

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (PTCGP) Space Time Smackdown expansion, released January 30th, features a Weavile ex card depicting a scene that has sparked outrage among players. Specifically, the full-art, 2-Star version shows a group of Weavile poised to attack an unsuspecting Swinub.

This depiction of predation has generated significant online discussion, with Reddit posts expressing concern and even heartbreak over the seemingly brutal scene. Comments range from pleas for the Swinub's safety ("No Swinub, look up!") to observations on the often-violent implications of the Pokémon world's ecology.

However, some fans offer a hopeful interpretation, pointing to a Mamoswine (Swinub's evolution) card showing a protective Mamoswine looking upwards, suggesting it may have witnessed and thwarted the Weavile's attack.

Space Time Smackdown, a Diamond and Pearl-themed set, contains 207 cards (smaller than Genetic Apex's 286), but boasts a higher percentage of rare alternate art cards (52 vs. Genetic Apex's 60). The set includes popular Pokémon like Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, alongside Weavile and Mamoswine.

Despite the controversy, Creatures Inc. has yet to publicly address the negative reaction to the card artwork or the preceding trading update. While a "Trade Feature Celebration Gift" was provided, the developer remains silent on fan complaints and has not responded to requests for comment.
