Where's Potato? is a new mobile game that joins the increasingly popular prop hunt genre. Players either become the elusive potato, cleverly disguised within a cluttered environment, or one of the seekers tasked with finding it. The objective is simple: evade capture as the potato, or successfully locate and "burn" the potato as a seeker.
The game's visuals are functional rather than spectacular. The 3D environment depicts a typical suburban home, the setting for the potato's hiding game. The potato isn't entirely helpless; consuming chili peppers grants it the ability to attack and "burn" seekers. Eliminating three seekers secures victory for the potato.
While not revolutionary in design, Where's Potato? represents a commendable effort, especially considering it's a solo project from a relatively new developer. However, its success might be limited.
The Challenge of Standing Out
The game's main hurdle is the prop hunt genre's inherent reliance on social platforms or integration within larger games (like Minecraft). A standalone prop hunt title faces a significant challenge in attracting and retaining a player base.
Despite this, the game's successful implementation of functional multiplayer is a noteworthy achievement, even for more experienced developers. The developer, gamesbynav, shows promise, and future projects will be worth watching.
