"Red Dead Redemption 2 Rumored for Switch 2 by 2025 with Next-Gen Upgrade"

by Joseph May 17,2025

Rumors are swirling that a Nintendo Switch 2 port of the critically acclaimed Red Dead Redemption 2 might hit the shelves by the end of 2025. According to GameReactor, insiders close to Rockstar Games have suggested that this port, along with a "next-gen upgrade patch" for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S, could be ready as soon as later this year. These enhancements are expected to significantly improve gameplay on the current-gen systems as well.

Echoing these claims, Nintenduo reports that the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 could launch within Take-Two's fiscal year, ending on March 31, 2026. It remains to be seen whether this version will be available digitally or as a physical release.

When Red Dead Redemption 2 launched in 2018, it was hailed as a "masterpiece" by IGN, receiving a perfect 10/10 score. IGN's review described it as "a meticulously polished open-world ode to the outlaw era." Given this high praise, the possibility of it coming to the Switch 2 isn't entirely surprising.

In a recent Q&A session with investors following Take-Two's latest financial report, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed "great optimism" for the Nintendo Switch 2. He highlighted that Nintendo has improved its support for third-party publishers compared to past platforms. Zelnick revealed that Take-Two plans to launch four titles for the Switch 2, including Civilization 7 on launch day (June 5), the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series, and Borderlands 4 on September 12. These titles are expected additions, considering Take-Two's history with the original Switch. However, Zelnick's comments suggest potential for more titles from Take-Two's catalog to make their way to the Switch 2, possibly including Red Dead Redemption 2 or even GTA V.
