Robert Eggers to Write and Direct Labyrinth Sequel

by Adam Mar 15,2025

Robert Eggers, fresh off his critically acclaimed gothic horror film Nosferatu, is set to direct a sequel to the beloved fantasy classic, Labyrinth. Variety reports that Eggers will pen the script alongside his The Northman collaborator, Sjón. This new sequel replaces a previously announced project with director Scott Derrickson, which had stalled. TriStar and Jim Henson Pictures have opted to move forward with Eggers' vision.

PlayThe original 1986 *Labyrinth*, starring David Bowie as the Goblin King Jareth and Jennifer Connelly, follows a young girl's journey into a fantastical world to rescue her kidnapped baby brother with the help of Jim Henson's iconic puppets.

Eggers' plate is full beyond Labyrinth. He's also helming a werewolf movie titled Werwulf, slated for a Christmas 2026 release. Details are scarce, but the film is set in 13th-century England and will feature dialogue in Old English. One can assume werewolf transformations will be involved.

Eggers' Nosferatu, a remake of F.W. Murnau's 1922 silent film, was released last Christmas. Set in 19th-century Germany, it follows a real estate agent whose dealings with a Transylvanian count unleash vampiric horrors upon him and his wife.

Nosferatu garnered four Academy Award nominations: Cinematography, Production Design, Costume Design, and Makeup and Hairstyling. Read our review here.
