Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet promises a significant leap towards open-world freedom for the studio, a departure from its previous, more linear titles. Inspired by Elden Ring, the game reportedly features a single, expansive planet ripe for exploration. Journalist Ben Hanson reports the setting will be a lost civilization shrouded in mystery, with a new religion forming a central narrative pillar. While the extent of its open-world design remains unclear, it's a clear shift away from the linear structures of its predecessors.
The Heretic Prophet marks a first for the studio: a truly solo experience. Neil Druckmann highlights the intention to evoke a profound sense of solitude within this uncharted universe, while exploring themes of faith and religion in depth. The story unfolds on Sempiria, a planet isolated from the galaxy for over 600 years, where bounty hunter Jordan Moon arrives to fulfill a contract.
Druckmann also cites influences from Half-Life 2 and Monkey Island, hinting at a potential move away from traditional hand-holding, towards a more enigmatic narrative where players actively piece together the story's fragments.
Announced at TGA 2024, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet currently lacks a release date.
